  1. and how would you characterise the saintly young Edward Kennedy ?

Was it Eden (or that wretch MacMillan) during the Blitz who observed :

“I didn’t realise there was anything yellower than yellow, until I met Joseph Kennedy”

  2. I’d give Teddy marks for developing a spot of conscience near the end of life, but he still has to account for that nephew/MD/lad of questionable virtue who inflicted the blue-dot special on this country several years ago . . . .

  5. My father-in-law used to always say that Joe Kennedy was a no-good, rotten bastard, and I never knew exactly what he meant. I knew that he got John elected by mob influence, and that he made A LOT of money from bringing booze into the country and selling it to mob figures during prohibition, but I didn’t REALLY get it until I started reading about what he did to his own daughter in ’41. Apparently, the Kennedy boys were allowed to be as promiscuous as they wanted to be, but not the girls! Having his daughter turned into a vegetable because he was afraid she’d get pregnant (or worse) and embarrass the family must have been his idea of women’s rights! And the family’s various explanations of what happened to her has to be one of the greatest cover-ups this country has ever seen!
