In the tradition of forgeries and conspiracy fantasies . . . .

What do this . . . .

Dig those crazy Russian propagandists!

Dig those crazy Russian propagandists!

and this . . .

Some new-age, neo-conservative tommyrot

Some new-age, neo-conservative tommyrot

have in common?

Why, they’re perfect examples of what imaginative Russian minds can come up with in their copious, intellectually less-than-rigorous spare time.

While I wouldn’t stoop so low in comparing Orly Taitz . . .
A Taitz of the future of neo-conservative rabble rousing

A 'Taitz' of the future of neo-conservative rabble rousing

to the Tsarist secret police and its associates (they were so much better at this sort of thing than is Mme. Taitz), I would observe that she is following in a grand Russian institutional tradition of smearing enemies with blatant propaganda. Or maybe she’s a proud practitioner of pulling stuff out of her ‘intellectual’ ass like another proud Russian of past eras: Madame Blavatsky . . .

Helena Blavatsky, who was new-age when new-age wasnt cool Helena Blavatsky, who was new-age when new-age wasn’t cool
All I can say is, the ‘birther’ movement has well and truly earned the ridicule, disgust and gales of derisive laughter I hope to continue heaping upon its associates and enablers. Know-Nothingness and Mugwump-ism are back and alive with a vengeance, and it’s so refreshing to know that so many of my countrymen suffer from rectal-cranial inversion.

  1. A revealing book about the lamentable Mdme. Blavatsky is “False Gods: Counterfeit Sprituality in an Age of Anxiety”, by Michael Whelton. The book has a number of shortcomings but it’s discussions of Madame Blavatsky are worth a read.

  2. As for the birther bullshit, well come over to the zeus blog for my dump on these people. They represent that reaction in people who just can’t accept that Obama is the prez. We saw some of the same hysterical behavior for Reagan, Bush Jr. and let’s not forget Bubba.

Some people just have to find a reason why this isn’t, can’t be, must not be happening. It is just the same. Sadly, these poor people also get randomly selected for jury duty.

What worries me is that this is the fringe edge of an ugly nativist and isolationist movement that does great harm to both political parties. Immigration is their usual bitch in better times, but things like this will do when immigration of any kind is currently very down.

I get sick to my stomach when I hear some local copier outfit encouraging people to buy copiers from them “instead of one of those Japanese direct companies…” Like this goober builds his own brand of copiers.

  4. As for nativists, they’ve always been a few mils beneath the surface of American society.

  5. re Blavatsky: She once said “Sex is a beastly appetite which must be starved into submission.”

Right there, we are in trouble.
