I’m pretty sure our weather is interchangeable with that of the Central Highlands of Vietnam . . .

For your edification, I present today’s National Weather Service morning bulletin:

THIS INCLUDES THE CITY OF JOHNSON CITY…
CITY OF BRISTOL IN SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA…
THIS INCLUDES THE CITY OF BRISTOL VA…
CITY OF NORTON IN SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA…
THIS INCLUDES THE CITY OF NORTON…
  LEE COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA…
THIS INCLUDES THE CITY OF JONESVILLE…
  RUSSELL COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA…
THIS INCLUDES THE CITY OF LEBANON…
  SCOTT COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA…
THIS INCLUDES THE CITY OF GATE CITY…
  WASHINGTON COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA…
THIS INCLUDES THE CITY OF ABINGDON…
  WISE COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA…
THIS INCLUDES THE CITY OF WISE…

* UNTIL 1115 AM EDT

* AT 821 AM EDT…DOPPLER RADAR SHOWED NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND ISOLATED
THUNDERSTORMS MOVING NORTHEAST AT 40 MPH ACROSS MOST OF NORTHEAST
TENNESSEE. THESE SHOWERS AND STORMS WILL AFFECT THE REMAINDER OF
NORTHEAST TENNESSEE AND SOUTHWESTERN VIRGINIA THIS MORNING.

* BRIEF PERIODS OF TORRENTIAL RAINFALL WILL OCCUR WITH THESE SHOWERS
AND STORMS…WITH HOURLY RAINFALL RATES GREATER THAN ONE INCH.
THESE HEAVY RAINS OCCURRING ON ALREADY SATURATED GROUND…MAY
CAUSE MINOR FLOODING…ESPECIALLY IN LOW LYING FLOOD PRONE AREAS.

A quick mental calculation indicates that I’ve seen 45 straight days of similar weather this summer, and the next three days aren’t looking that great, either.

Drought is actually looking pretty good about now . . .

  1. Well, here round about DC we just get the tail ends of your monsoons. They’re looking good about now, too. My clematis is thirsty.
