FFE’s Way

Filed under: Al Pacino, Brian DePalma, Carlito's Way, falling asleep on the couch, mob, Sean Penn, Viggo Mortensen — Frontier Former Editor @ 10:15 am

For the last five weeks, I have suffered from what at first glance appears to be a recurring nightmare.

Due to work scheduling and late arrivals home, I’ve found myself sitting on the couch and falling asleep at least two nights a week.

At least one of those two weekly occasions, I’ve awoken to the television showing almost exactly the same scene in “Carlito’s Way,” where Al Pacino arrives in the hospital to pay final respects to Sean Penn’s scumbag lawyer (sorry for the redundancy) character David Kleinfeld and to set up his vulnerability for a subsequent mob hit.

Hey, it’s a 15-year old movie so stop whining about spoiling it for you.

Is there some cosmic message in seeing this five times in five weeks? Is Brian DePalma reaching out to me?

Am I supposed to facilitate Sean Penn’s death?

Or is this some psychological richochet from Raincoaster’s obsession with Viggo Mortensen, since he shows up earlier in the movie as a wheelchair-bound, diaper-wearing ex-con trying to rat out Pacino?

Or did Starz end up with broadcast rights for an excessive period?

Or am I just a putz for falling asleep on the couch?

  1. I suspect that I know which way that I will vote, but reserve my franchise until the North Carolina primaries.

  2. Initial polls indicate that popular opinion is split evenly between ‘Sean Penn must die’ and ‘He’s a putz’

  6. I’ve never seen this film. Guess I don’t have to now! Gee thanks, FFE…

Though anyone sporting a haircut like that is clearly doomed.

  7. He’s even less attractive in Albino Alligator, though.

And yes, it is the cosmic rays of Viggian force, beaming outward from my blog.
