I suppose it is easy to get pissed . . .

when the kids are behaving exactly like the parents. Not that it really surprises me, but it does have its own chuckle factor:

WASHINGTON (AP) – The homeland security chief on Saturday tore into his own employees for staging a phony news conference at the Federal Emergency Management Agency. “I think it was one of the dumbest and most inappropriate things I’ve seen since I’ve been in government,” Michael Chertoff said.“I have made unambiguously clear, in Anglo-Saxon prose, that it is not to ever happen again and there will be appropriate disciplinary action taken against those people who exhibited what I regard as extraordinarily poor judgment,” he added.”

Anglo-Saxon prose, eh? Fuck you Chertoff, you shitbag fuckwit goddamn Bush administration mouthpiece and douchebag. How’s that for unambiguously clear, Anglo-Saxon prose?

It doesn’t strike me as the dumbest and most inappropriate thing I’ve ever seen in government. After all, there’s:

  • – the actual FEMA and Homeland Security response to Hurricane Katrina
  • – the invasion of Iraq (and yes, it was an invasion)
  • – George W. Bush in general
  • – damn near anything Dick Cheney does on a daily basis, whether or not it’s classified.
  • – all those canned news spots issued by a private PR firm under a contract by the federal government on the Medicare drug benefit plan – the one with the fake reporter.

It just goes to show the real point Orwell made in 1984: totalianism in the future is the result of basically stupid, ignorant, know-nothing people that we allow to ooze into positions of responsibility.

  1. When I heard about this on my omnipresent local news/talk station, I was fit to be tied. Who the fuck do they think they are? Better yet, who the fuck do they think We are?

This shit I expect from Cuba or North Korea, but I never thought I’d see the day when our government went to this length to control the message. Bush’s treacherous reign cannot end soon enough. All his malevolent appointees need to be cleaned out with him–and this is coming from a conservative!

  2. Dear FFE

We are still listening – you do not need to employ your less elegant phrases

    However :

The very Gray (und hypocritical) Eagle “….. was shocked to think that, however incapable of such coarseness of expression [him]self, the coarseness of the sentiment was little other than [his] own breast …. harboured and fancied liberal …”

It worries me that you & my N-Amerikan Friends seem to think about Mr Bush in a fashion similar to what I think about Mr Blair and to what (apparently) the kindly & sagacious Herr AerChie thinks about Mr Howard

It worries me even more that Mrs Eagle and the Junior Eagles have [frequent] occasion to know that the Gray Eagle is not entirely INcapable of such coarseness of expression …. and not only when I get a tax bill or hear that the wRetch Wickham has eloped with Lydia

I remain yr obedt servt etc

  6. Homeland Security crawled all over my fiction blog after I ran some press releases on my non-fiction blog about Immigration.

I wish someone would pay me to read ghost stories.

Hey…why not…after all someone paid them to do it, right?

  7. I used this story in one of my publications. Thanks for the pointer.

Of course, if Chertoff or anyone else gave a gooey peanut-stuffed $#17 about “message”, they would presumably be more concerned about stuff like this.
