I’ve been mean to Larry Craig, and he deserves it . . .

but not because of what may be misconstrued remarks on my part.

In and of itself, one’s sexuality is not really a concern for me. Straight, gay, lesbian, bi . . . I’ve got other things to worry about. If I’m going to like or dislike somebody, there’s better reasons to do so.

If Larry Craig was gay and had been trolling for consensual sex in a bar or other appropriate social setting . . . the power to him.

But being a gay-bashing mo-fu in public and apparently taking a page from Al Pacino’s “Cruising” when he visits airports?

It ain’t about the sexuality. It’s about the hypocrisy. At least he took it in the teeth for his hypocrisy.

But then there’s all the good God-fearing Republicans who ditched him quicker than a 747 on one engine halfway between Hawaii and Australia because of their commitment to morals and family values and other things that make America great.

Things like a half-assed colonial adventure that has diverted lives and treasure and the nation’s energies from making us truly safe and great in a peaceful world.

Like a political machine that has excluded much of the American public from participating in the very lifeblood of representative government and democracy.

Like fostering a social knock-down, drag-out over sexuality instead of a true come-to-Jesus meeting over what’s fair and decent for all Americans.

Like making the be-all and end-all of American foreign policy snagging and torturing every real and imagined terrorist for all we’re worth – like you’d think that a simple eye-for-an eye policy has gotten Israel anywhere over six decades except being larger than Rhode Island and, unlike Rhode Island, being all but landlocked and the center of boatloads of hate and discontent.

Yep, Larry Craig deserved far worse than anything I printed on this blog. Not because he was probably a closet gay, but because he was another symptom of what’s been really wrong for the last quarter century.

Screw ‘give peace a chance.’ I’d just like common sense and decency to get a turn at bat.

Dated, but it makes the point.

  1. I guess I’m the only person in the universe who wouldn’t know who Larry is unless I kept seeing posts about him here.

Is there any real reason I should know that he exists?

  2. If you’re not here, he’s pretty irrelevant.

Come to think of it, if you’re here now, he’s pretty irrelevant.

  3. I love Lewis Black!

Fortunately, I don’t have to clarify how I mean that, because @$$#0!3$ like Leisure Suit Larry haven’t yet had a crack at formulating policy here.

The astounding hypocrisy of Craig himself is amazing, though not atypical. However it doesn’t even chart against the GOP regulars.

Consider–why is David Vitter still working after getting caught with hookers?

However, I’m fairly happy to see that sole proponents of abstinence “education” in the real world do in fact appear to have firsthand experience of what they’re talking about. Sometimes several hands’ worth, apparently.

  4. Larry Craig makes me sad. It’s 2007. There are still a few old fashioned homophobes out there, but even they, with their blinders squarely in place, can see right through him.

What makes me more sad is that he was arrested for something I’m fairly sure isn’t illegal. If it is illegal to ‘suggest’ the opportunity for consensual sex, don’t tell me — I love my American and it will break my heart.

It is a filthy disgusting thing to hit someone up in a public john, but so the fuck what of it?

If I jokingly flash a gang-sign, will I be arrested under anti-gang laws?? It’s kind of the same thing, isn’t it?

  5. That it is. My issue isn’t with Larry trying to get some. It’s with the other crap he’s helped spawn long before flirting with Karsnia.

Not that Karsnia was exactly contributing to homeland security either . . . .
